Oly-Pen Force 8, Portland Blacktails 7

Alex Hernandez registered a hat trick in a back and forth game that saw the Oly-Pen Force come back to knock off the visiting Portland Blacktails on Saturday night.

The Force took an early lead thanks to a goal from TJ Jewett in the first quarter but fell down 2-1 early in the second quarter behind goals from Portland’s Miguel Gomez and Moses Diaz. But the Force would equalize a minute after Portland took the lead behind Hernandez’s first goal of the evening. But Gomez scored his second goals of the game with 3:40 left in the half and Porland took a 3-2 advantage into the break.

The Force and Blacktails traded goals twice early in the third to keep Portland up by a goal, but goals by Brady Vernik and Raul Islas gave them a 6-5 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

Adrian Rubio tied the game at 6 all at the 12:42 mark of the fourth but the Blacktails allowed a goal to Hernandez less than a minute later and then the Force took a two goal lead with 3:22 left when Justin Odette banged in the insurance goal. Portland added a late goal by Diaz to make it interesting, but Oly-Pen held on to take their first win of the season.

Tacoma Stars Reserves 4, Oly Town Artesians 3

It was a hard fought defensive battle in Tacoma between the Stars Reserves and Artesians with AJ Nitzel’s fourth quarter goal proving to be the difference in Tacoma’s 4-3 win at the Soccer Center.

Oly Town started hot with Sebastian Lyons opening the scoring just 16 seconds into the game. After Steve Mohn tied the game up for the Stars, Oly took the lead back on a goal by Collin Tate. It was the last goal that the Stars Reserves would allow until midway through the fourth quarter.

Raphael Cox tied the game at 2-2 early in the second quarter and Isidro Prado-Huerta scored his seventh goal of the season at the 11:33 mark of the second at the Stars Reserves held the 3-2 lead at the half.

The two teams played a scoreless third quarter before Nitzel’s goal gave Tacoma a 4-2 cushion with 10:04 left to play. The Artesians cut the lead to just one behind Tate’s second goal of the game with 8:22 left, but the Stars Reserves held strong and took home their second win of the season, 4-3.
