Oly Town Artesians 12, Portland Blacktails 8

The Oly Town Artesians went on a 7-1 run in the second half to build a 12-6 lead late in the game and held on against an undermanned Portland Blacktails squad to take a 12-8 win at The Pavilion. Jason Fairhurst and Collin Tate both registered hat tricks in the win.

The Artesians jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind Fairhurst and Tate’s first goals but the Blacktails rattled off three straight first quarter goals – the first from Isaac Vargas and then two by Adrian Rubio – to take a 3-2 lead after the first 15 minutes.

Luis Santamaria made it 4-2 at the 12:45 mark of the second quarter but two goals by Fairhurst and another by Tate gave the Artesians a 5-4 lead with 1:23 left in the half. Just 30 seconds later, Portland answered with an equalizer by Joey Lutio and the first half ended all knotted up at 5-5.

From there, the Artesians took advantage of Portland’s lack of subs and wore them down. Dylan Chavez opened the scoring early in the third quarter, Tate finished his hat trick with 2:51 left and Jordan Zimmerman made it 8-5 a minute later. Portland did get a last minute goal by Rubio to finish the third and keep them within shouting distance of the Artesians, 8-6.

But Oly Town scored the next four goals – the first by Kasey Sidor, one by Josh Dube, and then a double by Alex Vogt – to make it 12-6. The Blacktails scored two late goals by Cody Guthrie and Lutio, but it was too little too late and the Artesians won their second game of the season, 12-8.

Oly Town Artesians goals: Jason Fairhurst (3), Collin Tate (3), Alex Vogt (2), Dylan Chavez, Jordan Zimmerman, Kasey Sidor, Josh Dube

Portland Blacktails goals: Adrian Rubio (3), Joey Lutio (2), Isaac Vargas, Luis Santamaria, Cody Guthrie

Snohomish County 6, Oly-Pen Force 4

Glenn Paden and Andrew Escalante each scored twice and Snohomish County held the Oly-Pen Force to just one second half goal to take a 6-4 win at the Snohomish Sports Dome on Saturday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, Snohomish struck first in the second quarter before Leo Hernandez tied the game, 1-1, with four minutes left in the half. The Steelheads took a 2-1 lead with 2:47 left in the second, but the Force answered with a pair of late goals by Brady Vernik and Matt Olson and took a 3-2 lead at the half.

But Snohomish County and goalkeeper Dorian Lair would allow just one more Force goal, a third quarter strike by Alex Hernandez, and Paden and Escalante each scored a goal in the third and fourth quarters to take the 6-4 win, Snohomish’s second of the season.

Snohomish County goals: Glenn Paden (2), Andrew Escalante (2), Jeremy Maldonado, Christiano Whitaker

Oly-Pen Force goals: Leo Hernandez, Brady Vernik, Matt Olson, Alex Hernadez
