Grit City Derby Preview: Two Tacoma Teams Face Off
TACOMA NARROWS FC VS. TACOMA STARS RESERVES
Saturday, December 29 – 7:00 PM – Tacoma Soccer Center
Just one game in the Western Indoor Soccer League this week with most teams taking a Holiday Break. But the two Tacoma teams are set to battle Saturday night at the Tacoma Soccer Center in the first Grit City Derby kicking off at 7:00 PM.
The Stars Reserves took over first place last weekend when they held high scoring Bellingham United to just two goals in a 3-2 win. Defense has been the name of the game for the Reserves, allowing just 2.5 goals per game and no more than two goals in three of their four game. Goalkeeper Mike Arguello, Logan Jones and Danny Minniti have all won Defensive Player Of The Week awards.
They also set the league’s single game scoring record two weeks ago in a 17-5 takedown of the Oly Town Artesians. They scored 11 of those goals in a 19 minute span in the second half. Eddie Na leads the way for the Stars Reserves with six goals.
Meanwhile, Narrows FC is on a two game losing streak following a two game winning streak to open the season. They started with wins over the Artesians and Oly-Pen Force before heading to Bellingham and finding out the hard way how hard it is to win at the Sportsplex. They then dropped a 6-4 game to Snohomish, a game that they led at halftime and looked poised to take.
Many of Narrows’ players have played for the Stars Reserves including both of their leading goal scorers, Alex Vogt and JC Henson, who both have scored four times this season. Nate Salveson provides a ton of experience in goal for the new Tacoma squad.
