Week four saw three dominating performances in the Western Indoor Soccer League and coaches and club operators have voted to recognize Oly-Pen’s Luis Enrique Hidalgo as this week’s Offensiver Player of the Week and Bellingham’s Riley Liddle as Defensiver Player of the Week for leading their teams to victory this past Saturday night.
Luis Enrique Hidalgo scored three goals and chipped in three assists to lead the Oly-Pen Force to their first win of the season, 10-5, over the Snohomish Skyhawks. The Force veteran and former Rochester Lancer had a spectacular back heel goal that wowed everybody in attendance and had a hand in each of the Force’s last five goals that helped snap the club’s longest losing streak and leapfrog them up to fourth place.
Longtime Bellingham United keeper Riley Liddle kept a clean sheet in his three quarters of play in the Hammers’ 9-2 win over Tacoma Narrows FC and was instrumental in starting the United attack that built a 6-0 lead through three quarters. Liddle was in goal for each of Bellingham’s three WISL titles and has his team sitting at 4-0-0 and in first place with a big road game in Tacoma coming up this week.
This is the fourth straight week that a Bellingham player has won a POTW award. Liddle joins Jared Davis, Conner Moe and Richard Henderson. And Oly-Pen has won two of the four Offensive POTW awards. Izzy DeLuna won the award two weeks ago.
Nate Ford just barely missed the Offensive POTW as the only other nominee for the award. He registered four goals for the Tacoma Stars Reserves in their record setting win over Oly Town. Another Stars Reserves player, Danny Minniti, garnered a defensive nomination along with Force defender Greg Wolfe and goalkeeper Cole Weaver.
