TACOMA, WA— In a rivalry match between clubs on both sides of the Narrows Bridge it was the home standing Tacoma Stars Reserves coming out on top 5-3 over the Olympic Force to kick off both sides’ 2017-18 Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) seasons.

In other league action the Snohomish Skyhawks routed the Oly Town Artesians 15-6 in Olympia.

The Tacoma Soccer Center was buzzing with 473 fans on hand supporting the teams. The Force took a 1-0 lead when  Leo Potts got the first goal of the match. It would be a long stretch (into the fourth quarter) before the Force would score again.

The Tacoma Stars Reserves led 2-1 at the half and 3-1 going into the fourth quarter. In the last frame the clubs battled it out with 2 goals apiece.

Tacoma’s five goals came from Atty Taylor (2), JJ Schmeck, JC Henson and Nate Ford. The Olympic Force goals came from Leo Potts (2) and Izzy De Luna.

The Force defense was tested with 4 blue card power plays awarded to Tacoma. The Stars Reserves themselves were handed 2 blue cards.

Olympic trailed much of the game but pushed in the final minutes.
