Bellingham United has been crowned Champions of the Western Indoor Soccer League after they won the WISL Final 8-5 over the Olympic Force on Saturday February 27th. Before we put a great second season to bed we still have some business to attend to — namely honoring the four players named WISL Players of the Week for the two weeks of the 2016 playoffs.
WISL FINAL (Feb. 27)
In the WISL Final Oscar Jimenez of Bellingham United FC (Finals Offensive POTW) stole the show with two goals and two assists as he accounted for half the BUFC output in their 8-5 trophy-clinching win. On the other side of the ball Victor Kelmel (Finals Defensive POTW) kept the Olympic Force alive with timely tackles and blocks, and even scored a goal for his side.
WISL Semifinals (Feb. 20)
The week before in the WISL Semifinals Nate Ford (Semifinals Offensive POTW) kept the Tacoma Stars Reserves in their match at Bellingham. Even though the Stars fell 5-4, Ford’s two goals made an impression. Over in Bremerton Olympic Force goalkeeper David Meherg (Semifinals Defensive POTW) was busy frustrating Sporting Everett FC in the Force’s 8-4 win that propelled them into the Championship Match.
Congrats to these four guys and ALL of the players, referees, coaches, fans and operations people of the WISL. The second season was surely one to remember!
