It’s coming to a dramatic end right where it all began. The 2015-16 Western Indoor Soccer League Final will be played at the Bellingham Sportsplex on Saturday night February 27 at 7:30 PM between Bellingham United and the Olympic Force. The current WISL campaign began back on October 31 when the same Sportsplex hosted the NW Indoor Soccer Invitational as WISL clubs began pre-season. The Force won the pre-season tournament.
The Hammers and Force have identical 10-1 records. They met once during the regular season in Bellingham on January 2nd. The Hammers won that match 9-4, handing the Force their only loss of the year. Bellingham’s lone loss was a 7-5 defeat at the Tacoma Stars Reserves.
To get to the Final both clubs had to defeat familiar foes in the semifinals. Bellingham knocked out defending league champions Tacoma Stars Reserves 5-4 while Olympic beat Sporting Everett FC 8-4 in the third meeting of the year between the two.
Both sides have plenty of star players on offense and defense. The atmosphere should be electric. Bellingham’s supporters are letting everyone know via social media that they are ready to go. The Hammers are returning to their second straight Final. They fell 6-2 to the Tacoma Stars last year. This is Olympic’s first season in the WISL but they won the PASL NW last year and advanced to the nationals in that league.
History: 4 years ago the WSA Rapids (now named Bellingham United) traveled to Bremerton to face the Kitsap Pumas in the PASL NW Division Final. The Rapids took an 8-4 win over the Pumas at the Olympic Sports Center on Feb. 25, 2012. Over 10 players between the two sides that will meet on Saturday were also a part of that match.
The WISL will crown a new champion. The only question left to answer is will it be Navy City or the City of Subdued Excitement?
