We really couldn’t have planned this. A regular season final weekend in which all four playoff spots or seedings are still undecided going into three matches that are crucial to at least one of the clubs involved.
Olympic Force GM Micah McMonagle gives the scenarios a go here.
The Olympic Force and Bellingham United have clinched playoff spots and also home field matches in the WISL Semifinals on Saturday night February 20th. What has not yet been decided is who will finish first, and thus not only win the regular season but clinch home field all the way through the playoffs.
Bellingham United takes first if they can do something they have never done before – beat the Tacoma Stars Reserves in a WISL match. The Hammers would finish 9-1-0 on 27 points if they win, tied with Olympic’s exact same record and points. However, BUFC beat the Force 9-4 in Bellingham earlier this year, so they hold the tiebreaker.If Bellingham loses or ties, the Olympic Force have home advantage throughout.
|Club||Points||Wins||Losses||Ties||GF||GA||Goal + / –|
|TACOMA STARS RESERVES||13||4||3||1||49||43||+6|
|OLY TOWN FC||4||1||7||1||44||72||-28|
Top 4 clubs make the playoffs.
The Tacoma Stars Reserves would clinch a playoff spot if they can win up in Bellingham. A loss or a tie makes them vulnerable to the clubs below them, and might mean that an earlier match between the Reserves and Snohomish Skyhawks that was canceled due to a power outage would need to be quickly scheduled and replayed in Tacoma before the 20th.
The Snohomish Skyhawks sit outside the top 4 right now, but they have six points out there to claim. They need a win Saturday at Oly Town. A tie would give them 1o points, a loss eliminates them and clinches for Tacoma and Sporting Everett FC. If the Skyhawks draw or win over the Artesians, then they will be scoreboard watching down south in Vancouver where…
Sporting Everett FC travels to Vancouver on Saturday to face the Victory. A win would give Sporting 15 points. That would be good enough to at least tie for fourth place even if Snohomish beats Oly Town and then also beats Tacoma in the previously mentioned match that awaits results and then might be rescheduled. If Sporting gets to 15 (wins at V2FC) their chances increase greatly. It might force that canceled match, but since Tacoma and Snohomish are their chasers, only one of them can claim the 3 points. The only way that Sporting wins but does not make the playoffs is if Snohomish wins twice and improves their goal differential enough.
That much-mentioned canceled match won’t happen if the Skyhawks lose in Olympia and Sporting gets at least a tie in Vancouver.
