Hidalgo, Eronemo lead Olympic sweep of POTW honors

The Olympic Force are leading the Western Indoor Soccer League and they showed why on Saturday night as they broke out in front of the Tacoma Stars Reserves and then held on for an 8-6 win in a thrilling match that displayed the best of what the WISL can offer.

Enrique Hidalgo (video interview) scored a hat trick (3 goals) in the match to inspire the Force offense. Matthew Eronemo was all over the pitch, cruising with speed and skill around the midfield and maintaining possession during key stretches for Olympic. These two are named this week’s WISL Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.

“Enrique continues to mesh with the team,” says Force head coach Steve Cashmore. “He is so creative and had been struggling a little to find top form but showed on the night that he is getting closer and is very dangerous. He brings a lot of experience to our side with his time spent in the pro league with the Rochester Lancers.”

Matthew Eronemo (video interview) flew around the pitch with grace, speed and ease against Tacoma. He kept his cool late on as the Stars Reserves pulled their goalkeeper and made a rally. He gave a truly professional performance.

“Matt had a very good game,” coach Cashmore says. “It was nice to have him back after missing for the Bellingham game where we could have use his speed defensively. He came up big with some key blocks and made it difficult for Tacoma to get behind us.”
