BELLINGHAM, WA— The Whatcom Soccer Academy (WSA) Rapids of the Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) are rebranding to Bellingham United as the indoor and out semi-pro clubs in Whatcom County combine operations.
“With the addition of Bellingham United to our organization we will be expanding the BUFC brand as we will convert the Rapids indoor team name to Bellingham United and give the BUFC brand year round exposure” the club stated in a press release. “Most of our players with BUFC have also filled the roster of the Rapids. So with this transition this will make it seamless.”, stated Whatcom Sports Commission Executive Director Lance Calloway. “We also anticipate changing the branding of our youth soccer academy, WSA Rapids to the Bellingham United Hammers Academy.”
The indoor WSA Rapids played under that name in the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL) for seven seasons 2007-13. The Rapids showed consistent improvment over the years, moving up a spot in the standings each season before finishing first in 2010-11. Last season WSA finished 4-3-1 and in 4th place.
